INAUGURAL CASSOS BOARD MEETING FEB 4-6 2009
(January-29-09) The inaugural Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System (CASSOS) Board Meeting is being convened February 4 to 6 2009 at the new CARICOM Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana. This marks an historic moment for aviation in the Caribbean as CASSOS will be the first regional organization mandated with aviation safety oversight leadership in the Caribbean when it makes its official debut as a formal institution of the Caribbean Community. CASSOS evolved from the Regional Aviation Safety Oversight System (RASOS) which was the operating arm of the Association of Civil Aviation Authorities of the Caribbean. RASOS also held its inaugural meeting in Georgetown at the old CARICOM Headquarters, in 2002 and its elevation to CASSOS is a significant milestone in its original goals for the development of cooperation and resource sharing and harmonization of safety oversight activities among its membership.
The inaugural meeting will commence at 09:00 a.m. on February 4, 2009 with official opening ceremonies and presentations attended by dignitaries, Board Members participants, observers and the press. The official opening will be followed in the afternoon by a closed session meeting of the CASSOS Directors. February 5 and 6 will be occupied by the normal open session of the meeting attended by the Directors, CASSOS Staff, other participants and observers.
Further details of RASOS and CASSOS may be found in a previous press release on this site, dated July 2008. |
